People like you

People like you should go learn English before you go on telling other people to grow up. That way, you could save yourself the embarrassment of putting the letter "n" at the end of the word "grow".

And also, it's Just friendS, my dear. With an "s".

I know you don't need people like me to teach you but please, do find yourself a proper teacher because you really need one. Sigh.

The answer is well, umm no. Not really. Someday, you will understand is all I'm saying.

(And by the way, the fact that u know about my blogpost is rather intriguing..)

Of Cranberries Live in KL

So they were in KL last week. I've only found out about it when my school friend tweeted about trying to get the tickets. She had asked me to come along for old time's sake.. i paused. I never thought of going, really. I  then i replied that i felt kind of funny to be going to a concert. Why? I don't know why.. i mean i would still enjoy listening to Dolores O'Riordan but i guess i just don't fancy going to a concert nowadays.

I texted my brother who is also a fan of the Irish band back in our school days.
Me: Hey, malam ni got Cranberries concert lah
Him: Kat mana?
Me: Stadium Merdeka
Him: Mesti dah sold out
Me: Yeah, they say the RM110 tix dh habis. Tinggal Rock Zone (220) and pit (300). We so lembab la.. X tau pun ada concert ni :P

How outdated are we??

I didn't really feel much after it was all over but i think if they were to perform again the next day, i might just drag the brother to go. For old time's sake.

[the only regret i had that night was telling hubby abt it because i wasn't sure how many times i heard him sang "zombie" after that... i mean come on, they have lots of other hit songs!]

Shop, Eat and Walk down memory lane with the cousins, JB

This was a planned trip with the cousins. One was attending the BIL's engagement, and another one is to bring the wife to JB for the first time. And since our grandparents' place are in the final process of selling (i'm so, so sad...) we thought we should go and pay our last respect to the good old house. I had so much fun and since we don't get this kind of opportunity very often, i just had to put most pictures in!

The Shopping Activity
My husband and I arrived a day earlier and met up with Mr. & Mrs. Freen and their daughter, Lil M at JPO (the rave of JB town now, the Johor Premium Outlet). We had sort of a late night at my parents' house, but everyone were so semangat and got up early the next morning to start our activities, especially my eldest brother. We started the day with some retail therapy, doing some DVD shopping at Holiday Plaza. It was 10.15am when we arrived but most shops were still closed! HP is something like Low Yat but with funky disco attire and lots of fake LVs, Chanels, Guccis and the likes, cheap electronic accessories and DVDs are sold.

At JPO with Mr. & Mrs. Freen and Lil M. I have been here before so i wasn't really checking out the place but merely "teman"ing the cousins and hanging out at the coffee place there and got some candies.

Buying cheap phone accessories and dvds at HP and 2nd trip to JPO.
(Someone burst his button on his pants and had to get one immediately. Lol).

Gastronomic Activity
Another main agenda for that weekend was to EAT! The favourite ABC at Wisma Ayer Molek is always on top of the list among us! Known as "Gerai Batu" by some locals, it's where our late Tok Bak used to bring us for an evening treat! I've blogged abt it here before. We also had the famous Mee Rebus Haji Wahid and some Yong Taufu soup at Angsana. Had Tip Top ikan bakar for dinner too as one of them was craving for it (also featured in the same blog entry as the one featuring the ABC). Husband and i left early after dinner on Saturday as we would have to start our journey back to KL very early the next day. The rest went to Danga Bay for some funfair fun.

Eating our hearts out. One of the must do in JB.

Visiting the (late) Don's House - probably for the last time.
We started taking pictures in the almost empty rooms, reminiscing old memories, filling in fibs and tales to the inlaws of the happenings in the past that took place in the house as soon as we arrive.. The good old days.. *sniffs
Us taking a picture in late grandpa's room, in the living hall where we used to "tidur lambak" when everyone comes back for Raya or on school breaks and one in the garden where my cousin had to take home a banana tree as requested by the mom. It was successful only after the second attempt. Hehe.

More of us taking fun, silly photos.
Bottom left is a picture of the husband looking on at the 3 cousins posing in the room they used to watch "Ultraman" together! ;) Notice that there's an air quote. Hehehe

The house has been up for sale for a while and it was almost sold some time ago before our grandma changed her mind... I was somehow hoping that it would stay that way as i'd hate to see the place taken over by somebody else and having to see the place being done differently. But now it's finally happening.. I could very much understand how my grandmother feels. She has stayed there for 40 over years! How could you separate with something that has been with you that long? I was in tears too when they told us that they were selling the house at first. How could i not? I practically grew up in that house. My grandpa would take us almost every weekend to stay with them. It's like our (school) holiday house too! Our playground, growing up. It has been a major part of my life and holds so many bittersweet memories... (but that's life right? All these material things will mean nothing eventually, when the time comes to be called to meet the Creator).

I'm sure gonna miss the house so much.
It's a shame the 4th generation of En. Md. Said will never get to know the place.

It was a fun weekend and i look forward to trips like this again, Insya Allah.

Something (old) that made me smile

I went to go to visit my grandmother at my aunt's last weekend. At breakfast, i was taken by surprise to see something old on the table. No, no.. not the grandma hehehe. But something i had bought her 20 years ago on my school trip to Melaka.

I got her the mug as a token of remembrance and appreciation for the extra pocket money she gave me for the trip. Hehe. I remembered she kept it in her display cabinet for years after i gave it to her and i have not seen it for so long! Now she's finally drinking off coffee from the cup.

I laughed over the fact that i just had to choose the one with the senget writing of the lot. Nice, huh! Hahaha. But it was just a sweet surprise after so long =)

Yes, i love you, Tok! And not just because of that extra money you gave me. But i love you for that too, of course! ;)

City of Motorcycles (and crazy cabbies) and great spirit.

How did i miss this? I have no idea that this was not published. I'm aware that i have been abandoning the blog for some time but this was actually written! I had to re-write the entry to make it less outdated. Anyways, this is about the city of Ho Chi Minh f.k.a.Saigon. A city i visited in 2010.

It was actually my second visit. The first time being a couple of months before when i went to accompany a friend on a short stay.

This time though, i thought i'd go with the husband to help me with some load, hehehe. And to say my thanks, i took him to places where i knew he would definitely enjoy ;) Places i saw from the first visit and thought of him instantly (and then with the help from google, of course). I don't really know the place that well. In fact, it's rather quite the opposite since i was worried that the cabby would dump us in the middle of nowhere - more than once - because we couldn't come to terms with him on the fare! The cabbies were a nutcase! Let me just warn u here.

I've made a point to keep the address of the places we were heading to from biz cards and receipts i have collected from the earlier trip to show them to the cabbies since, well, i don't speak Vietnamese and they don't speak/understand English too well so they would look at these addresses and said, "OK!" (with such confidence too, if i may add!). And then, they ended up going in circles, even to the point asking other people and told us to get into another cab but we still have to pay them in FULL! Wtf! I was at a boiling point going back from the Cu-Chi Tunnel but tried to remain calm especially after seeing so many Americans were killed by the Vietkongs at Cu-Chi. Mind you, the cab meters were showing at two zeros or so, that's in our RM, not peanuts! With the help of a diagram drawn by the Mr. with such lack of patience (and artistic flair), we manage to level with the crazy cabbies in the end. I'm just thankful we got back to the hotel safely -__-"

[Some word of advice: Do NOT try not to be too adventurous or too thrifty. Just pay extra and hire a tour guide for the sightseeing and save the huge headache!]

Now, i have never seen so many motorbikes in my entire life! They carry almost everything on these bikes too! From a bundle of nice smelling steamed sweet-corns to livestocks to a mountain of crops and breads, even a 2-door refrigerator! Can you imagine that? I didn't get to photograph all this (because i was busy being too worried in the cabs) but i promise you some the next time, if time permits. I also honestly do not know how i would manage to cross the roads in the City without my husband by my side as you have to be really and i mean REALLY Gung-ho to brave the bikes! It was so scary. One more thing about the people here.. they honk about every 4 seconds, maybe 2! It's just nuts! But they are very hardworking people! Children of all ages are selling something and they sell anything almost everywhere. They would park their bikes at the side of the road and sell chickens. The place doesn't have to be strategic or appropriate. They carry businesses wherever they seem fit, so to speak. They are such survivors.. i just admire the energy! And it made me realise how lucky we are to be living in a country with lots of privileges.

I shall leave you to some photos taken during the visit now. Mostly of us, though. As the ones of the other people are mostly blurred. Sorry.
Above: My guide for crossing the roads :)
The city was showered with lights as it was only days away from CNY.
Below: Me in front of an exquisite building. Served once as a community hall. I think it's a hotel now.
Very much influenced by French architecture.

At the War Remnants Museum:

Who doesn't love big tanks, yes? Hehe

Some sick photos of cruelty and inhumanity:

This one has a caption: Mostly women and babies. They looked as if they tried to get away.
So heartbreaking ;(

..more of women and babies.. they look like they're innocently asleep.

Left: local victims being dragged by a tank leaving them without a face. How cruel is that?!
Right: an inhumane soldier proudly holding up whatever is left of a human body.

The prison.
There were only one cell on each side of the original building left and some drawings were made to reflect the cells during the war (the doors behind us was just a drawing).
They even had human figures of the real prisoners from back then made and placed in the cell. Very creepy.
The 2 cages above are being used to stuff 5 prisoners and 3 prisoners in a cage respectively all at once.

At Cu-chi (pronounced "Khu-chee") Tunnel:
This was the highlight of the trip. One of the most memorable place i've ever visited.
Top left: me in one of the tunnel (that has been widen)
Centre (first row): me with a hole made for shooting enemies from below
Far right: the guy in green (guide) was showing us the few types of booby traps
Bottom (2nd from right): Air vents that was built similar to an ant hill
Bottom (far right): us having ubi rebus with ground peanuts and sugar. A taste of the staple food during the war.

We went down to Level 2 of the tunnel for only about 10 metres which was about 6m deep and were panting like mad before we even reach the exit!
[i couldn't help but notice that my husband's t-shirt was very cu-chi appropriate!]

The tunnel took 20 years to complete and was dug only by using small hoes and baskets. Built very systematically, it consists of 3 levels that held up to 6 underground villages, complete with hospitals, meeting rooms, resting areas, kitchens, family rooms, wells and emergency water escapes. The doors to the tunnels were made of special wood that expands when in contact with water, making the doors water-proof. (They really thought of every detail, it's just so impressive!). The doors and tunnels were also made just to the size of the locals. The foreigners have bigger built so they couldn't fit into it. Even these 2 foreigners had to go into the ones that was made bigger!

We were also told that there were no markings whatsoever to the entrances too. The people actually find the places by memorizing where the doors were actually located. Surely not made for the weak minds, and even weaker spirit. During the war, both men and women would have a rifle on one hand, and a gardening tool on the other - to fight the enemy and to make food to survive.

A photo that captured the happiness in the harshness of war.
A couple welcoming their baby.

Miss oily face (trying my best not to make the panting visible here) with a photo of a prominent heroine that fought during the war after losing her parents.
She is now residing in Ho Chi Minh City, aged 60 plus.

Check us out in action!
Trying out the Kalashnikov!
He hit on the target once.
Moi? Well, not even close.
So not war material, the both of us! Sigh..

When 2 become 1

Question:
What do u get when you put my fav celeb..

with

my all time fav beautiful beast??

Answer:
The new Range Rover Evoque!
Ugh.. MAJOR LOVE!!!

I'm very excited! This came a little bit delayed on my end as usual because i'm such a busy woman ;p but here it is.
Mrs. Beckham was appointed as the creative consultant for the interior of the new Range Rover SUV and has even been named Top Gear magazine's Woman of the Year for the design. The car itself, was named Car of the Year by the magazine, in which Jeremy Clarkson (whom finding flaw is like his second nature) admitted that it was his favourite vehicle of 2011. Brilliant!

The stunning Evoque comes in a 5-door and a 3-door coupe with 2 turbo charged 4-cylinder engine choices: 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre turbo diesel. And the best part is, the prices are relatively lesser than the usual selling price of a Range Rover too. Still expensive, but much less expensive. Naturally here in
Malaysia, lesser door will cost more but a 5-door vehicle usually works best for a girl like me :)

I especially love it in the red and black sporty interior as well as in the classic truffle.
I need to wipe my drool off the floor after this........

yummms..

The world is Jobsless

Even if i don't own any apple products (anymore), i would like to join the rest of the world to say thank you Steve Jobs, for the delicious apples.

I hope he will continue to inspire us all even though he has departed. I leave you with his inspiring speech someone had sent me a couple of years back, if you haven't seen it already.

Stay foolish, stay hungry. Thank you & RIP.

New egg on the block

Hey, guess what? I'm on twitter now! (Finally). I was in a dilemma to set up a twitter account (such drama to have a dilemma over such trivial stuff  like setting up a twitter account.. i know).

I'm clueless in the twitter world. Blogging is different. I like writing long... i need a lot of words, i love long phrases.. I just like the idea of throwing random words in the void  and babble about things and then look back whenever i feel like it. I just don't wanna bore people with things like.. what to have for dinner.. feel like having ice cream.. or tweeting something that annoys me that entail questions by concerned friends and ended up having to share my annoyance and explain the whole situation. I just feel that it's sometimes unnecessary (i'm a bit of a private person).. and i don't wanna caught myself saying things i can't take back. Basically, i'm just afraid that i might not be able to control myself la. Hehe.

My friends have been pressing me on this.. So what the heck, let's just do this..  See what other people are tweeting about and if i don;t like it i can just leave. And who knows, i might just like it too.

Then it was time to choose a username. This wasn't a breezy thing too. I've tried several:

azrarashid taken
azrara taken
azrarash sounds like i'm having a rash.. cancelled
azrashid doesn't sound right.. cancelled
nurazra taken
arzarun (nurazra spelled backwards) taken!
ladyq taken
ladyquixotic taken

then i got carried away...
ladyrara taken
ladylala taken
ladyqaqa also taken?!!

azramuz available
azramuza available
azra_rashid available
azramil available
ladyquixote available

And later i saw at the side of the username box, "Don't worry, you can change it later"... So there. I've joined some other 105,779,710 people on twitter. I'm a tweeter now. Is that what they call someone who tweets?

For the love of Shoes...

I used to have the love for shoes and never really was a bag person. But after my first designer bag, i became sort of hooked and stopped getting shoes for a while ( beacause designer bags aen't cheap, right?). Bought a few during trips that i seldom ever use anymore. I guess it's the hassle of having to change from one bag to another to match my outfit is what i don't have the patience for. I'd rather stick to a basic piece and have my shoes changed instead (it's a lot easier that way!) that is, until i discovered some sort of crackling sound of one knee, followed by some pain that got me checked in into a podiatry clinic one day.

The results weren't good but the remedy was even worse! I am NOT to wear regular shoes anymore and they had a pair of othortics made for me that day *cries. I don't mind the othortics, really. What bothered me was how much money i had to pay for it and the shoes! Running shoes?? Oh, come on! U don't expect me to wear running shoes everyday? When i'm NOT running or brisk walking?? That's Fugly! And it isn't just running shoes, of course. It has to have a certain characteristics to it. A hard part to protect the bone above the heels, a broad base and a suitable contour for my feet, among other things. In short, expensive! The brand Brooks  was recommended.

I calmed down a bit when the podiatrist finally said that i could bring some of my own shoes or find some other "special" shoes out there that fit the criteria and that they would fix the othortics. Of course i went for the cheaper option first and when none of them were right (but, of course -__-), i went to search for some decent looking casual ones, at least that are easy on my eyes and had found 2 mary janes from Foot Solutions that aren't so bad. The guy told me that my doc (are podiatrists considered doctors? Some say like chiropractors, they aren't) well, he is a bit particular than others and will only approve of one (which in my untrained eyes don't fit me that well) and he was right! It was a no-no!

I found a pair of Brooks selling at a discount by chance one day, and guess what? This time they aren't the right size to fit in the othortics and i couldn't return them! Man this was tiring! And then, i was introduced to this little miracle worker by my husband's cousin...

Fitflop!! They aren't the prettiest thing on earth but they are magic! I gave them a try but did not feel the difference immediately, i must admit. I read these benefits some people are singing praises for but i didn't immediately fall for it. But i decided to give it a go because with the price of ONE pair of "special" shoes, i could get 2-3 Fitflops! Only after the 3rd week of wearing them almost religiously do i began to feel an ease on the knees (with the help from going to reflexology too i guess). I no longer feel the pain after walking a distance as i did before. My condition was so bad before, it came to a point where i had to have a stool/a chair EVERYTIME i perform prayers! Now, not anymore! (InsyaAllah, touch wood!). I can perform solat like a normal person again! This has made me so happyand relieved because i cried at times not knowing if i was ever able to sujud normally again. (And i was very down thinking that i should have done my prayers more diligently when i was younger healthier.. *sniffs..). Mum said to make peace with the chair when i refused at first, ".. or at least until your condition gets better", my other half added. I guess this served me as a reminder. We sometimes don't appreciate what we have until we no longer have it and i am thankful to be reminded even in a painful way. Alhamdulillah :")

I don't know if the podiatrist will approve of this but i don't really care what he thinks anymore. I still have the othortics-uncut stored in my shoe room store room and i still wear my regular shoes occasionally but the Fitflop is my staple footwear now. Checkout Fitflop here.

I even think my bum is smaller now, if not tighter! :P I'm thinking of getting another one soon to achieve the model's bum. Haha.

** Oh, the other day, i was admiring one of my customer's shoes when suddenly my assistant shot me down with, "Akak, akak tu sakit lutut.....".   -____-    Such a killjoy!
*Disclaimer: This post is not an attempt to announce that i perform the solat. I am merely telling my experience, in case anybody is sensitive to the subject. You know who you are ;)

Truly eye opening

The Arrivals. Have you seen it? If you haven't, you definitely, definitely should. You will never see things the same way, ever again. InsyaAllah. If you have, how did the videos make you feel? I had goosebumps from the very first few parts. I felt a huge pang after watching the videos further. By the end of it, i had a mixed feeling. I was consumed with sadness, embarrassment, regret, but nevertheless with hope too. But above all, i feel so, very deceived.

As a kid, we were all taught to stick to our roots, have faith in our religion and to refuse and avoid evil temptations. We are all mostly brought up in the "modern" world in which we thought that the West are bringing good development to the country and the rest of the world. And even though we knew that they had also corrupted our little minds with their culture and way of life, little did we know that it goes far beyond that. We are unaware of the extent of of this mind controlling phenomena and how deep it has affected us. Unaware of how clever we are all being "played". Evil has a main agenda. A GRAND plan. And we are all being lead and controlled greatly by these so called "world leaders" towards this grand plan unbeknown to us.

You have got to see it for yourself. This is my next step. To spread it. Help me do the same (especially if you have many readers) if you BELIEVE in God, the one and only creator. No matter what your religion is. The key is to keep an open mind. Let's help ourselves and save human kind. Let us all join together to raise the awareness and together, find the truth and wisdom from all that is happening around us.

The Arrivals Part 1 Intro

May God forgive me for my ignorance and guide me towards righteousness. Amin.

pre-loved in loving memory

I used to own a similar pair in red (minus the high cut) in which i have sold many many years ago after much hesitation. Looking at the photo above has bring back good memories and is giving me the itch to get a new one. Perhaps this time, an earthly colour.

Getting life back on track

I have a problem juggling work and home. I'm swamped. Not just with the new job, but also from my post as the Honorary Secretary to the Mr. and our club, and of course being the Home Administrator too. After having done almost half on the list, I still have some complaints to get sorted, minutes of meetings  and some leasing agreements in my pile, and to put the house in order besides more crisis at work! I hate deadlines! Sigh. I'm already so exhausted thinking about it! Transition process is not easy! I pray for more hours in a day! :'( If they say any women can multitask, then i must be a man trapped in a woman's body.

I've been focusing on the store so much, i need to balance it with home and other stuff. Now that the major works at the store are finally done, i'm now left with waiting for the Unifi guys for 5Mbps speed of net browsing at work! Hooray! Goodbye lousy broadband! Some had told me to sign up for yes, but i need a land line for mobile cctv viewing. (Siti, if you're reading this by any chance, BEWARE! Muahaha!)

At home, i have been training myself to rise earliest possible and sleep as early as possible too, so that i can spend a few hours for laundry/scrubbing/dusting/organising or whatever that needs to be done before work to make the place more live-able and i have been quite successful so far. *Grins* The only thing left for me to do is, get my LIFE back! I've been neglecting myself. I've been skipping facials, swimming classes and even meals! I've lost 4 kilos since December. Needless to say it's so not healthy!!

But for a more current update, I have managed to keep my facial appointments-twice now and meeting friends for a social balance for starters (though, i admit, i have been late on most occasions), i have also been making time to catch up on reading as well. So there's progress. I just need to get my swimming slot back and find time to cook healthy meals! (..and complete the above-mentioned tasks. Ugh).

But C'est la vie. Everybody's busy with their own thing. So, can't complain, right? I just need to plan my time better and learn to take things easy (this is even harder!). Let's hope i can keep things the way i plan to and de-stress a bit. Do i hear Angel Spa calling?? I need to go make a phone call.

Family antics

I believe every family has them.
Sometimes i wonder if that is what constitutes a family?

December: A new chapter

If you have read my entry on my list of Things to do before 30, you'll know that some of them are rubbish. Yes, haha i admit. I just wanted a longer list. But anyhow, i do have some that i have been meaning to strike off from the list like go to the movies alone. It sounds so simple but i can't seem to do it. I have a friend who actually does this sometimes after work, but i simply couldn't! Plus, having a husband who got offended when i voiced out the idea is obviously not helping too. (I tell you, they get soft by the age -_-)

Okay, but that wasn't the BIG December project. Ladies and gents, (drumroll please.....) I have finally started my own business! Yay! :D Alhamdulillah. I know i have past the age of 30, but so what, right? Who makes all these silly rules, anyway?

I am well in the running into my 4th month in March, insyaAllah. But i tell you, the challenges.... gosh! I don't even know where to begin. Even though i'm still in the early days, but man have i seen a lot in the past couple of months! And i am sure more are to come. I just have to stand tough. God give me strength!

I realised that i have a lot to change about myself too, after getting involved in business. I have to be more firm, more thick skin, more patient, more skeptical, less transparent, less trusting and less nice! In short, i have to be a b**ch have a personality makeover! Because there are so many kinds of people out there that will TRY to take advantage from your act of kindness.

**That's no more housewife for you. So stop asking me what i do at home! (too many concerned people living among us.. i feel so lucky, don't you?? :p)

Saturday, January 29, 2011

A very busy year end.

Wow, January is almost over. I have been super busy since the last post. Well, even before that, actually. Sampai demam2, it was crazy! Why people always assume being a housewife is easy, is beyond me. You have MORE social obligations you can't run away from.

My mother in law went for haj last October, so the Mr. and i played host before the send off. I was already running here and there for my December project. So, knowing that we don't have any help especially when it was a weekday and time is always an enemy, we catered for about 20 pax, but catered in the sense that we ordered food. So picking up, setting up, cleaning up and all was all basically DIY :"( (Thanks to Cik Lili who got herself busy as she arrived). The very next night was the time we welcomed  my lil nephew, baby Hazir into the world (wrote abt it in my last post). I went to sleep over at my brother's house to help look after my sad nephew whom the parents had to leave for the new arrival. Brought him to the hospital the next morning and helped my brother with his stuff the next day when the wife got discharged from the hospital. Penat being a host pun still tak hilang lagi...

Before sending off the mum-in-law, makan-makan at our place.
Not even a small picture can spare me the eyebags.... :'(

Then i went for a hide-away (from life outdoors) to prepare cakes for 2 occasions. In which i received a phone call for order when i was asleep after the haj send off. MIL was called in about 1.30am. So by the time i reached home and done cleaning up, i slept about 3-4am. I remembered talking gibberish on the phone and finally offered a call back soon because i realised i was scaring my customer away. Hehehe.

I made a simpleThomas birthday cake as requested for the birthday boy to bring to school (but fyi to those who are not in the know, a simple cake does not mean simple to make. Just in case you are wondering WHY a simple cake can cost so much sometimes. Kalau tak percaya, i suggest you try make one. Yes, i sound annoyed don't i? Because that's the truth). And made another 50 cupcakes the day after for the party at home. Complicated lil cuppies that requires a head start on colouring, cutting, shaping and moulding. Days ahead. So you can imagine the lack of sleep and all. I never look good attending these birthday parties whenever i have to come with my own cake in my hands! lol (And i don't think i ever want to do this kind of cuppies ever again!! :'( Unless of course, someone would really want to pay for all the pain and hard work).

(But in between, i still manage to squeeze some time pegi Angel Spa ;) Wanted to write about it but haven't had the chance to. So this will have to wait).

After that came Raya Haji. Since the mum-in-law was away for haj, my hubbs being the eldest son suggested we had the makan2 pagi raya session at our place. It was our turn to spend raya with his family anyways. So we once again played host for the celebration but this time, yours truly did the cooking (of course). Thanks to mum and ayah for dropping by to offer help. You guys are the best!!! Oh yes, u too, Harris! :D I managed to get the kari ayam, kuah lodeh, sambal goreng, rendang daging, (ketupat plastic, no less :p, and lemang (beli) too) all ready on time! In fact, the cooking was all ready way ahead of schedule! An accomplishment for me. Tak pernah masak full course for a large pax on my own for pagi raya so far. This was a first for yours truly :) (Though i got some help but mainly things were done by myself la. Thanks again mum n ayah... i couldn't have done it without you!!! Well, can la tapi takla siap by 5pm! Hehehe ;) )

Table all set in the morning of Aidiladha :D
Waiting for the guests....

Next came dad's birthday. I made him a cheese cake since i know how much he loves them. It was my first time attempting a cheese cake and i was quite surprised how simple it was to make! But the ingredients aren't cheap, though. Then, i was down with fever :( I can't remember for how long. But it was not very long before my next order that was long booked by the cousin. I had to forego the one before that, though-the quite last minute order for a friend. (Pix below). Because i still had to squeeze in time to go meet people for my December thing.. so ampun, babes. Tak larat. Hehehee.. Health comes first, considering our age now.. :P

Us sharing a tiramisu @ twentyone

Finally November was coming to an end. Made the 2-tiered Barney cake for the cousin's son 1st birthday for the 27th November party. She was getting nervous when she got to know that i was not well, worried that i might not get the baking done for her but all was well, alhamdulillah. Tee hee. Luckily she wanted an exact design of a Barney cake i've done in the past, so i was able to skip the head scratching part to think about designs to come up with. But just when i thought i have the remaining 3 days to breathe before December comes, the Mr. fell sick! Can you imagine that?!!

One life begins, another ends.

27th October 2010 was a happy day that my family celebrated and welcomed a new addition to our family, my little nephew - Hazir. He was born at 0048 that day and we were all very excited when he came into this world.

At about noon, i was at the hospital visiting this beautiful new guy when the husband called immediately when he touched down from work. I told him the good news and he too was very happy that all anticipation of whether or not the SIL will give birth that night was over and everything was all okay. A few seconds after, he called again. This time he was the one bearing news. But sadly, not a good one. Our friend, Geeva had passed on. I couldn't believe my ears. "Who?" I asked again, thinking i had heard him wrong. "Geeva?".. Paused. "Geeva?????".. again, in all disbelief. He replied "Yesssss, Geeva..." also from his voice, i could sense that he couldn't even believe himself.

In his next phone call, my husband told me that my cousin is on his way to pick him up to go pay their last respects and visit his family. I was at the hospital still trying to digest the info. We were all still in shock (my eldest brother, the youngest brother, my SIL and me were all having a hard time to get this info across). My brother had texted him along with the others to share the happy news the night before but little did we know he would never receive it. He passed away that same night not long after Hazir was born.

I have been avoiding facebook for a couple of days after bidding him goodbye and seeing so many more on his fb wall. A close friend of his created and dedicated a special page in his memory for us to share fond memories of him when he was living his full life. It just made me so sad. Only then that i got to know that he had such a hard life growing up. Obviously, he never showed it.

Here's a story on how we met..

I got to know Geeva about 4 years ago when he joined our racing team, Kazzen Motorsports. The first time i met him was at the 2007 MME race. I was cleaning up at our pit and was heading for the thrash when he came up to me and said, "let me get that for you..". At that time i didn't even know who he was.

Geeva's recruitment to the team was rather special. As the name 'Kazzen' suggests, the team mainly consists of our voluntary family members (mostly cousins) and friends who share the same passion for cars. When i asked the husband if he had known Geeva long, he told me that he didn't know him before but when they were working together one day, he approached Geeva after observing him in doing his job. He told Geeva about the racing team and asked if he would like to join us at the track some time. They have been friends ever since. Not just with the husband, but the whole clan, me included. It was so easy for everyone to be around him as he was always full of laughter, very hardworking and never once he complained about anything. Needless to say that sincerity always shines through in whatever he does. Just look at his profile picture putting up sticker on the race car. Even that.

He recently told the hubby and my cousin that he would one day loved to do up his car and drive at the track. Sadly, this day will never come. We are very saddened by the unfortunate news especially when he had just passed his exams and had finally become a certified engineer (a Licensed Aircraft Engineer to be exact), full of hope and a promising future ahead. The husband kept repeating that full of regret. But after knowing that cars were his true passion, i am glad that he was given the opportunity to do what he loves best together with the team and that we are very honoured to have the opportunity to have had him on board. For me personally, I am truly blessed to have known one of the nicest person i've ever met.

Today, after the shock from the news, even after reality has seeped in, i still find it hard to believe that he is gone forever. The image of him working on the car, joking around while having meals, calling me 'boss' to annoy me keeps playing in my mind and had brought me to tears. We last saw him in September back at the track, sitting down having kfc together sharing small talks after a private race. I never thought that that would be the last time we ever saw him. I guess we all took advantage thinking that he will always be around....

I hope you know that you are truly an amazing person, Kazzen Geeva. Thank you for everything that you've done for us. You are deeply missed. May your soul rest in peace.

Of gardening, the garden and the bloody annoying gardener

I adore beautiful gardens be it small or big. When we were checking out our place before moving in, i told the husband how much i loved the back yard. I would never extend the back for a bigger kitchen or room because we would then lose that small area. We haven't done anything to it ever since we moved in except cutting the grass (that's almost 5 years now) until earlier this year. I have the idea of a herb garden but what can i say, after a few miserable attempts, i have to admit that gardening is just not my forte. God knows i've tried!

We finally decided to change the grass for both front and back lawn (when my eyes could no longer take the sight of weeds growing happily in the "garden"). I had been tending to the front lawn a couple of years back with much love and well, some care even with very little knowledge in gardening. You have to give me some credit for the effort, right?

Then one day, after we got back from travelling, one of my favourite plant (sorry, i have no idea what it's called) got attacked by these white stuffs (Dad says it's "benah") so i had to throw them away. The weather hasn't been gentle to the plants too so some of them were already dead by that time. And then more plants went dead. Ugh. I was so frustrated.

Anyways, after changing to pearl grass, the garden looked nice again and less panic but then some old grass (the thinner and taller ones) started growing back in the back yard. And they are back with a vengeance. Called the gardener but i suspect this guy only appears in front of our gate only when he is in need of cash.

A day after completing the first job, he came to our house to borrow some cash. I don't know what he told the Mr. but he got the money and said he would come back the next day to return the cash and to trim some branches that i now suspect he conveniently had forgotten about. Days passed, nothing. The husband tried calling him several times, no answer. When i called, he answered. Only because he didn't have my number. He told the Mr. that his wife was sick and has been in the hospital for a few days. That he would drop by our place once she's better. Fine.

Then one day on our way back home from some errands, i saw him working at one of our neighbour's house. We turned back and spoke to him "nicely". He came by our house later that afternoon to look at the backyard and (again) said would come the next day for the grass and branches. He did this time. But had told me to pay him for the grass he had to get from the nursery. I told him he has to wait for my husband for that and that we would pay AFTER the job, thinking that we wouldn't have to pay him since he did a lousy job the first time and the fact that he owes us money. But after everything was done, he still got paid and left us with the sweet promises that the unwanted grass won't be back. The Mr. paid him because he said he needed the money and that we can call him to do work for free the next time. Yeah right.

Now guess what? The bloody grasses are back again. Sigh. I'm thinking of doing something to that particular area as some parts are not badly affected and also perhaps hiring a proper person to help upkeep the garden. One that wouldn't cut our throat or get on my nerves. I have the urge to do it myself but given the history, i'm not sure if that's a good idea.

Oh yeah by the way, he also told me that he hasn't been well and has been in the hospital before started working at my neighbour's. Familiar? First the wife, now him. Hmm. When i asked, "sakit apa?", he answered, "sudah mau mati lah saya rasa..". I'm sorry, but all i have in the back of my mind was, Baguslah tu, John!
