Of Cranberries Live in KL

So they were in KL last week. I've only found out about it when my school friend tweeted about trying to get the tickets. She had asked me to come along for old time's sake.. i paused. I never thought of going, really. I  then i replied that i felt kind of funny to be going to a concert. Why? I don't know why.. i mean i would still enjoy listening to Dolores O'Riordan but i guess i just don't fancy going to a concert nowadays.

I texted my brother who is also a fan of the Irish band back in our school days.
Me: Hey, malam ni got Cranberries concert lah
Him: Kat mana?
Me: Stadium Merdeka
Him: Mesti dah sold out
Me: Yeah, they say the RM110 tix dh habis. Tinggal Rock Zone (220) and pit (300). We so lembab la.. X tau pun ada concert ni :P

How outdated are we??

I didn't really feel much after it was all over but i think if they were to perform again the next day, i might just drag the brother to go. For old time's sake.

[the only regret i had that night was telling hubby abt it because i wasn't sure how many times i heard him sang "zombie" after that... i mean come on, they have lots of other hit songs!]

New egg on the block

Hey, guess what? I'm on twitter now! (Finally). I was in a dilemma to set up a twitter account (such drama to have a dilemma over such trivial stuff  like setting up a twitter account.. i know).

I'm clueless in the twitter world. Blogging is different. I like writing long... i need a lot of words, i love long phrases.. I just like the idea of throwing random words in the void  and babble about things and then look back whenever i feel like it. I just don't wanna bore people with things like.. what to have for dinner.. feel like having ice cream.. or tweeting something that annoys me that entail questions by concerned friends and ended up having to share my annoyance and explain the whole situation. I just feel that it's sometimes unnecessary (i'm a bit of a private person).. and i don't wanna caught myself saying things i can't take back. Basically, i'm just afraid that i might not be able to control myself la. Hehe.

My friends have been pressing me on this.. So what the heck, let's just do this..  See what other people are tweeting about and if i don;t like it i can just leave. And who knows, i might just like it too.

Then it was time to choose a username. This wasn't a breezy thing too. I've tried several:

azrarashid taken
azrara taken
azrarash sounds like i'm having a rash.. cancelled
azrashid doesn't sound right.. cancelled
nurazra taken
arzarun (nurazra spelled backwards) taken!
ladyq taken
ladyquixotic taken

then i got carried away...
ladyrara taken
ladylala taken
ladyqaqa also taken?!!

azramuz available
azramuza available
azra_rashid available
azramil available
ladyquixote available

And later i saw at the side of the username box, "Don't worry, you can change it later"... So there. I've joined some other 105,779,710 people on twitter. I'm a tweeter now. Is that what they call someone who tweets?

pre-loved in loving memory

I used to own a similar pair in red (minus the high cut) in which i have sold many many years ago after much hesitation. Looking at the photo above has bring back good memories and is giving me the itch to get a new one. Perhaps this time, an earthly colour.

December: A new chapter

If you have read my entry on my list of Things to do before 30, you'll know that some of them are rubbish. Yes, haha i admit. I just wanted a longer list. But anyhow, i do have some that i have been meaning to strike off from the list like go to the movies alone. It sounds so simple but i can't seem to do it. I have a friend who actually does this sometimes after work, but i simply couldn't! Plus, having a husband who got offended when i voiced out the idea is obviously not helping too. (I tell you, they get soft by the age -_-)

Okay, but that wasn't the BIG December project. Ladies and gents, (drumroll please.....) I have finally started my own business! Yay! :D Alhamdulillah. I know i have past the age of 30, but so what, right? Who makes all these silly rules, anyway?

I am well in the running into my 4th month in March, insyaAllah. But i tell you, the challenges.... gosh! I don't even know where to begin. Even though i'm still in the early days, but man have i seen a lot in the past couple of months! And i am sure more are to come. I just have to stand tough. God give me strength!

I realised that i have a lot to change about myself too, after getting involved in business. I have to be more firm, more thick skin, more patient, more skeptical, less transparent, less trusting and less nice! In short, i have to be a b**ch have a personality makeover! Because there are so many kinds of people out there that will TRY to take advantage from your act of kindness.

**That's no more housewife for you. So stop asking me what i do at home! (too many concerned people living among us.. i feel so lucky, don't you?? :p)

100th, baby!

Oh my god, it took me 44 months to get here to my 100th blog post. That's a long time! Hehe.

But to be fair, i have some drafts shelved waiting to be edited and posted, so i could have reached here much sooner.. They've been sitting there well, 1. because i'm just a major procrastinator and to simply put it, lazy lah 2. lack of words to express my story or maybe just plain no idea. Then after a while, it gets outdated and i just lost the interest to update them.

I'm back in my writing shoes again now.. but i don't know if i'll ever publish any of them at all. We'll see. Take care now. See you on my 101st post! :D

A tale of two wolves

I noticed some changes in me lately. I get irritated and angry very easily (than usual). And the other day, while browsing, i came across this story again and it had me rethink about some things. So, here i decided to to share the story with you since, we need some kind of a reminder from time to time. No?
*****

One evening, an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.

He said, "My son, the battle is between two 'wolves' inside us all. One is Evil - It is anger, envy, jealousy, greed, and arrogance. The other is Good - It is peace, love, hope, humility, compassion, and faith."

The grandson thought about this for a while and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf wins?"

To which the old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

Have a good day, everyone!

Coach me if i'm wrong..

I'm such a sucker when it comes to versatility (or it's just one of the many justifications that i may have). Well, one thing for sure, i'm a practical gal :P
Often you hear husbands/boyfriends say we women pay so much for our handbags and they end up being underutilised. We ladies however, have our own minds about this :)
But like some of these guys, i'd calculate the "cost per use" (as one of my friend puts it) of the bags i purchased. I don't mean literally but the more expensive they are, the more i should use them (but of course, you shouldn't choose this over style. That's why it's always something classic in my case. See, practical, kan?)
No use to "sayang" materials by just keeping 'em in your storage (i used to be one of them) but then, you don't get to enjoy the stuff you buy and where's the fun in that?
And i'm no celebrity, so who cares if i'm seen with the same bag again and again?

Back to versatlity, when you can use them in so many ways, now that's like buying more than 1, right? How's that for value for money?? :D

In my search for an "affordable" basic black bag because obviously, everybody needs one, i went to have a looksee and found some at Coach.

According to some people, Coach bags are overpriced because you can get them so cheap especially in the States so when it comes to value for money, they aren't worth it. I do agree - to a certain extent.
But, sometimes i'd go against the common perception especially when i see something that i like and when it's within my reach, i say to hell with all that. Heheh.
(Plus, i always buy at discounted price anyways).

Here are some Coach finds that struck my fancy..
The Hailey Crossbody
You can wear them as a shoulder bag/sling.
Simple, practical.

Brooke large tote
(They come in medium size too but i'm a big bag person)
The short straps for hand held/carried on the elbow
And the long one for the shoulders.

Peyton leather drawstring crossbody (in melon)
Handheld/elbow & crossbody
Always a fan of the drawstring bag. And red's my favourite colour.
New arrival (so it will be some time before it goes on a discount..)

Parker small hobo
Parker hobo
Okay, these obviously are not very versatile.
But not bad for a basic black bag.
I don't mind either size.
Fancy the lilac too.. but i have to focus here.. black. Or deep brown. Yes.

Brooke large wristlet
This one, do not exactly falls under the basic black bag category but is quite versatile.
Can be transformed into a small handbag
Small bags don't really work for me but umm, sometimes you need them too..?

[I'm thinking whether to get (whichever one) maybe from Whoosh].

All i want for Xmas is... not much.

Just these:

1. a DSLR
A basic one will do. I just need a good camera for nice, sharp images for my projects and travel. And for his hobby too.

2. an Anya Hindmarch Hector Navy Python

3. maybe a Hybrid car :P

OR,
some additions to my wardrobe/shoe/book/DVD collection and home furnishings would be nice too :)

Wait, before i forget...

... Pearl Jam is coming to Malaysia?? Betul ke?? Asked a fellow fan about this, (the brother, who is guilty of the music influence) and he went, "..ye ke? Tak tau apa-apa pun..". Sigh. But it was in the news! I may not have an innate knowledge in music (my choice of music is eclectic), but grunge is what i grew up listening to and Pearl Jam is one alternative rock band i heart the most among very few others. Now that there are no Blind Melon and Soundgarden concerts to count on, i feel like i am obligated to go to this one. (Oh, Eddie Vedder!!) Why can't i get more info on this??? Sighhh...

Rave over an insect

Of late, i've noticed that i am more and more into Dragonflies. After googling to find out what it actually symbolises, here's what i get:

"A dragonfly is a symbol of sense of self, which comes with maturity. It represents renewal, positive forces and power of life. A pair of mating dragonflies is believed to be a symbol of love.

The animal symbolism of a dragonfly is associated with good luck, prosperity, swiftness, strength, peace, purity and harmony. These symbolic meanings of a dragonfly are popular, specifically, with the Japanese and Native Americans.

In Japanese paintings, dragonflies represent new light and joy. Dragonflies help you see through your illusions and allow your own light to shine in a new vision. They remind us to pay attention to our deeper thoughts and desires.

In Japanese culture, dragonflies are considered as a symbol of strength, happiness and courage. They are often mentioned in Japanese literature and art, especially 'haiku'. In ancient mythology, Japan was recognized by the name, Akitsushima that means ‘Land of the Dragonflies’. According to the Japanese people, a dragonfly is associated with the rice plant’s spirit.

To some Native Americans, dragonflies are the souls of the dead. In England, dragonflies were considered to be evil and dangerous
(yikes!). They were nicknamed as ‘horse stingers’.

A dragonfly lives a very short life and it tries to live to the fullest with what it has. I think this is the greatest lesson for all of us. We should try to enjoy every moment of life with what we have."

There's always a little something to figure about yourself, ey? ;)
Have a good Friday, people!

Weird Dreams

The other day, i dreamt that i was helping out on a movie set along some friends. Among the cast was Ida Nerina. And something else happened.

And last night, there was Batman, the caped crusader. He was the villain, killing people using toothpaste as its deadly weapon.

What the heck??

Sucker

The one thing i could not resist at the Metrojaya Warehouse Sale recently was this blouse from BITTEN by SJP which i found amidst the mounting pile of Goggles clothing. Sesat. It was the only one. And it was in my size. Not that i was crazy about it, but it's by Sarah Jessica Parker. Lucky it's cheap :P

Yeap, me the sucker.

No photos of felines, please!

If you love your cats, please don't take photos of them. I wanted to blog and post a photo of this cat we found days ago but the conversation i had with my cousin last week stopped me from doing so.

I'm sure some of you have heard that if you take a photo of them (i'm not sure if this only applies to cats), it will die. It may be of pure coincidence but since it has happened more than once to some people i know, i am now just too afraid that it might happen to our new little cat. I am not superstitious, just being careful here.

Anyways, his name is Scabby, after his scabby ears :)

Dr. Martens

A cousin of mine is busy looking for one to replace his old pair that he has given away only to regret it later. He has been bugging me (not that i don't enjoy his bugging) on msn on this and i decided to write about the footwear -- Dr. Martens, Doc Marts, DMs.

I am a shoe lover (though i have to admit to have a weakness for bags too). I have a pair of Doc Martens purchased wa.....aaaay back when i was about 17 years old in which i love to bits and still have them till this very day!

It was the IN thing at that time. Everybody has to have one. And so, with much love (for shoes) and determination, i finally get to buy the shoes from the neighbouring country, as our place in JB has not many variety. You can only get them from places like the Old West or Rock Station at that time and the designs were very, very limited (and that the kind available were more of those the skinheads would wear - 10 or 14 holes).

I bought my DMs with the hard earned money i received from working 9-5 while waiting for the SPM result as my parents never shower us with such luxury and trust me, it will only be asking for death if i ever voice out such request. It is by far the most expensive shoes i've ever spent on (though i just splurged on a black heel pump that is of higher price yesterday, but it was at a 60% discount, so practically the DMs still remain my most expensive shoes). It was about RM400 after conversion but it was money well spent. (Mum, if you're reading this, i know i said it was around RM200+ last time (or did i say RM100+?), but that was so long ago, so let's just forgive and forget, ok?)

I used to pair them up with jeans, mini skirts, even dresses for outings, it was perfect. Mum and dad used to tease me of the difficulty to take them off and putting them back on when visiting but i didn't mind at all. I was very happy with the pair! :)

The classic
Dr. Martens boots is in black leather and with the signature yellow stitching (as small pix above). But they do come in different designs and colours. I once saw the one in electric blue and fell in love with it instantly. But being the practical gal that i am, i managed to refrain myself to fall for it since it will be odd to be running around in electric blue boots in most cases and that you can't pair them up with a green dress or a red skirt. Maybe some of you would, but it's just not my style. So, i bought myself a 6 holes in light brown suede instead (large pix). (They now have this delicious chili red pump i just saw online).

I've stopped wearing them altogether now, but back then in college days up in North, it has served me well (apart from my selipar jepun) during my years of exploring the island of Langkawi going up and down the hills of Telaga Tujuh and Durian Perangin to name a few, during nights out fishing at the jetty and going to classes (in style) when it was raining cats and dogs, given it's durability. My brother had several times worn the DM's to the wet market nowadays because not only they protect him from the wetness, they are non-slip too!
As for me, i'm planning to keep it. I may use them again some day. For hiking or something and if it goes back in style i'd still wear them, even with the hijab. Or with kids. I don't mind :)
